Community Integration

How We Help

Independence and presence of choice are our core beliefs. Our top priority is for ArcGNO participants to have a meaningful day.

Through our four community centers, we offer participants a variety of engaging activities that involve fellowship, community, the ability to build new skills, and more.

We actively coordinate programs with community members who serve as group leaders to provide integrated experiences that include, but are not limited to:

Volunteer Opportunities

Participants volunteer to gain work experience, sharpen their social skills, and experience the community.

Health and Fitness programs

Participants enjoy biking, swimming, yoga, bowling, and more.

Social Gatherings

We integrate with the community through gatherings at coffee shops, restaurants, and movie theaters.

Community Center-based Programs

ArcGNO participants remain at our centers and engage in a full schedule of activities throughout the day.

Our Centers

Our Community Integration (CI) program starts with our four area community centers that serve as day facilities for adults. Supervised by a compassionate staff of trained caregivers, our community centers are located in a four-parish area:

People First of Louisiana

At The Arc of Greater New Orleans, we believe in a world where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead lives filled with choice, dignity, and opportunity.

One way we advance this mission in our state is by hosting People First of Louisiana.

People First is self-advocacy organization run by and for people with disabilities. Its members work to ensure that individuals with disabilities have the tools, confidence, and support to speak up for themselves, shape the policies that affect them, and make their own life decisions.

The organization offers training in self-advocacy, leadership, disability rights, and independent living.

Whether it’s standing up for accessible transportation, participating in legislative advocacy, or helping others understand their rights, People First members are changing the conversation around disability in Louisiana.

ArcGNO is proud to support People First chapters in our region. Call (225) 383-1033 for more information. Meetings are held at the following locations:

Uptown Community Center

Our Focus

ArcGNO is known to compassionately care for people with intellectual disabilities or developmental delays (IDD) of all ages, but an IDD diagnosis does not define those for whom we care.

We strive to create integrated communities that are inclusive and accepting, and we encourage independence, self-esteem, and self-reliance, which lead to a fulfilling and engaging life.

Community Integration empowers all to celebrate our differences.
